“There is nothing permanent except change” is one of the sayings of Heraclitus. Changes are inevitable and important also. Although, changes have occurred in all the places, Delhi is one place where changes have altogether changed the outlook of it. Now, it seems like a completely new place what it looked like a few decades back. Over the past few years, everything ranging from culture, clothing, youth's choices, etc. has changed dramatically in the metropolitan area. Here’s a list of some changes that have taken place recently.
1. Leggings replaced traditional salwar suits- For girls, wearing salwar suit with dupatta is a matter of passé. With the introduction of sleek and comfortable leggings, now kurti with legging is a preferred choice of not only girls but married ladies as well over traditional salwar suits. Reason being, they are comfortable, give fashionista look and most importantly, one legging can be worn with many kurtis. Owing to the fact, the popularity of a combination of kurti with legging continues to thrive in Delhi female section.
2. Pithu or Laptop bags replaced Suitcase- A few years back, office going people carry suitcase along with them for keeping their important documents. Now, the scenario has undergone a sea change. Of late, the trend of carrying pithu bags or laptop bags is catching pace.
3. Scooters and Maruti 800 phase out- That day is not so far when vehicles like scooters and Maruti 800 will be hard to see in metropolitan cities. With the emergence of power bikes and stylish car models, these vehicles are virtually dead now.
4. Complete disappearance of Landlines Phones- A few decades back, rotary phones were replaced by landline phones. And with the presence of mobile phones, the landline phones are completely ruled out.
Communicating with friends through sms rather through mails, eating out in restaurants on weekly basis, doing shopping online, - the list is endless. It would not wrong to say that these are some kind of those changes which are primarily seen in Delhi and other metros. But slowly and steadily, these changes are taking place in small and rural areas as well. Please tell, if there are some other changes which you have observed in your nearby areas. Your suggestions are welcomed.
